Methylene blue was first synthesised in 1876 and has a long history in science. It is redox-active: it cycles between oxidised and reduced states rather than being used up like a conventional antioxidant, and it can act as an alternative electron carrier in the mitochondria.
Skin's mitochondrial activity declines with age, which is why researchers have become interested in it for skincare. The laboratory work is genuinely promising; large human trials of topical methylene blue don't exist yet, and we say so plainly.

How to use
The daily
intervention.
Cleanse
Start with a gentle cleanser and leave skin slightly damp.
Apply
Press two to three drops into face and neck. Morning, evening or both.
Moisturise
Let it absorb for a minute, then follow with your moisturiser.
Protect
In the morning, finish with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or above.

Methylene blue in topical skincare is well characterised in the lab and in reconstructed-skin models. Large, controlled human trials don't exist yet. We'd rather tell you that than sell certainty we can't support.

What is methylene blue and why is it in a serum?
A synthetic compound first made in 1876. In skincare it acts as a redox-active antioxidant that cycles between oxidised and reduced states and can act as a mitochondrial electron carrier, a different mechanism from conventional antioxidants.
Will it stain my skin blue?
No. At cosmetic concentration it is effectively colourless once in the gel base and won't stain skin, towels or bedding. The serum has a very faint blue-green tint in the bottle that disappears on application.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
It's fragrance-free and designed for all skin types, with Ectoin, Centella and Allantoin for comfort. As with any new active, patch test on the inner forearm for 24 hours first.
Can I use it with vitamin C, retinol or acids?
It layers well with niacinamide, peptides and hyaluronic acid. With prescription retinoids or strong exfoliating acids, alternate: use the serum in the morning and the stronger active at night.
When will I notice a difference?
Skin feels more hydrated from the first use. Give texture and tone four to six weeks of consistent daily use, and judge the full effect at around twelve weeks.
