What to Use With Methylene Blue: A Layering Guide

Skintervene editorial 1 min read Updated

Methylene blue is easy to fit into most routines, but a few combinations are better split across morning and night. This chart covers the actives people most often ask about.

In short: methylene blue layers well with niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, peptides, ceramides and ectoin in the same routine. Vitamin C, retinoids and strong exfoliating acids are compatible but best used at a different time of day to limit irritation. Apply thinnest to thickest: water-based serums first, then moisturiser, then SPF in the morning.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use methylene blue with niacinamide?

Yes. They work well together in the same routine, and niacinamide has strong evidence for barrier, tone and texture.

Can I use methylene blue with vitamin C?

Yes. There is no established incompatibility, but splitting them, vitamin C in the morning and methylene blue at night, keeps irritation low.

Can I use methylene blue with hyaluronic acid?

Yes, in the same routine, in either order.

Can I use methylene blue with an AHA or BHA?

Yes, but on different nights or at different times of day, to avoid over-stressing the skin.
