How to Use Skintervene

Skintervene editorial 3 min read Updated

Where the serum sits in a routine, how much to use, what to layer it with, and what a realistic timeline for results looks like.

The short version: two to three drops on clean, slightly damp skin, after cleansing and before moisturiser. Morning, evening or both. Follow with SPF 30 or above in the morning. Judge hydration in the first week and anything structural at six to twelve weeks.

The routine, step by step

01

Patch test first

Apply a small amount to the inner forearm and leave for 24 hours. Do this with any new skincare product, not just ours.

02

Cleanse

Use your usual gentle cleanser. Pat the skin so it is clean and slightly damp rather than fully dry — water-phase serums spread and absorb better that way.

03

Apply two to three drops

Warm briefly between the fingertips and press over the face, avoiding the immediate eye area. Two to three drops covers the full face; more is wasted rather than better.

04

Wait about 30 seconds

Let it absorb before the next step. It should sink in without tack.

05

Moisturise, then SPF in the morning

Follow with your usual moisturiser to seal. In the morning finish with a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or above — sun protection remains the single highest-return step in any routine.

Morning, evening, or both?

Either works, and both is fine. The serum is not a photosensitiser in the way retinoids are, so there is no requirement to restrict it to evenings. Consistency matters far more than timing — once daily every day beats twice daily three times a week.

What to layer it with

Product Compatible Notes
Hyaluronic acid serum Yes Apply the lighter texture first.
Niacinamide Yes Already in the formula; additional use is fine.
Peptide serums Yes No known conflict.
Vitamin C Yes, with a gap Vitamin C in the morning, Skintervene in the evening if you prefer to separate them.
Retinoids Alternate Use on non-retinoid nights, or apply in the morning instead.
AHA / BHA exfoliants Alternate Avoid stacking in the same application to reduce irritation risk.
SPF Yes Always last, every morning.

A realistic timeline

What to expect, and when
  • Days 1–7: hydration and surface comfort. Skin should feel softer and less tight.
  • Weeks 2–4: the skin surface typically starts to look smoother and more even in tone.
  • Weeks 6–12: the fairest point to judge texture and firmness. Cellular processes run on a slower clock than surface hydration.
  • Beyond 12 weeks: maintenance. Benefits from any skincare active depend on continued use.

If you want to assess it properly, take a photograph in consistent light on day one and compare at week six. Memory is an unreliable instrument for gradual change.

Storage and shelf life

  • Store upright, at room temperature, away from direct sunlight. A bathroom cabinet is fine; a sunny windowsill is not.
  • Keep the cap closed and avoid touching the dropper to skin.
  • Observe the period-after-opening symbol on the carton.
  • Refrigeration is not required and offers no benefit.

Frequently asked questions

How many drops should I use?

Two to three for the full face. Using more will not accelerate results.

Can I use it around the eyes?

Apply to the orbital bone outward and avoid the immediate lash line and eyelid, as with most facial serums.

Will it stain my skin, pillowcase or towels?

No. At cosmetic concentration methylene blue does not tint skin or transfer to fabric once absorbed.

What if my skin stings or reacts?

Stop using it and speak to a pharmacist or dermatologist. Mild transient tingling on first use is not unusual with any active serum, but persistent stinging, redness or itching is not something to push through.

Can I use it while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Check with your midwife or GP before introducing any new active during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Should I stop other products when I start?

No need. Introduce it into your existing routine — but if you are also starting other new products, add one at a time, otherwise you will not know what caused what.

Does it work under makeup?

Yes. Let it absorb fully and follow with moisturiser and SPF before applying base products.
